The Triwizard Tournament: Part One

And so, the year has begun. Of course, starting off on a wild note, Durmstrang and Beauxbatons have joined us in the castle. It has caused higher tensions than usual, as the professors seem to feel as though they are being constantly evaluated, and are therefore much more strict. Fred and George attempted to age themselves up to put their name in the Goblet of Fire, which is the device which chooses the names of the competitors. Of course, it didn't work, Dumbledore is much too clever for that.

And so the day came on which the names of the competitors would be determined. First called: Viktor Krum, from Durmstrang (also the famous Quidditch player Ron has been absolutely fawning over). Next: Fleur Delacour, from Beauxbatons. Lastly: Cedric Diggory, from Hogwarts. But then the Goblet didn't stop, its flame didn't go out. Most peculiarly it spat out another piece of paper. Dumbledore cautiously grabbed this one, looked at it and hesitantly called out "Harry Potter". How? How could Harry have gotten his name in there? How could Hogwarts have 2 champions? It just wasn't fair! I didn't want Harry to do this, but once the Goblet of Fire has chosen someone it's like a blood contract. You can't not participate. It was a horrible day. Everyone seemed to be mad at Harry, and he was miserable, as he, of course, hadn't put his name in.

Anyway, the year resumed, classes continued, and the hype around the tournament died down. Then, one day, about a week before the tournament harry came racing back to the castle after visiting Hagrid and told us that he knew the first task. They were going to have to do something with dragons, probably fetch something from them. Ron and I looked apprehensively at him; dragons were hard to deal with! We tried to think of many different ways that Harry could perhaps deal with this creature, but nothing came to mind. Then, one night I had a brainwave! Why didn't harry just use his broomstick? He was clearly an excellent flier. He patiently reminded me that he couldn't bring it with him into the tournament, but he forgot that we had been learning Summoning Charms in Charms class! He could summon the broom to him! So we started working. Harry had struggled with the charms in class, so we practiced non-stop.

Eventually, it was the day of the tournament, and I was so nervous. Harry hadn't mastered the charm, but we didn't really have a backup plan, so it had better work! I met him in the competitor's tent and gave him one last hug before I had to leave. He was the last one to compete!

Viktor, Fleur and Cedric all managed to fetch the egg from their dragon, some a little closer to getting injured than others, but they all managed. Then it was Harry's turn. He aced the Summoning Charm (not going to lie, I was really proud of him), and he (narrowly) managed to retrieve the egg.

Thank goodness he wasn't hurt. I was so glad when they announced the age line, as then no one I knew would be entering the tournament, and now Harry is in it! So much for a peaceful/calm year...

Year 4

Wow! I can't believe that I am starting my fourth year here at Hogwarts! It is crazy to think about how much I have learnt, and how much has changed since I was 11, stepping off that train, and stepping into the magical world in which I now reside.

This summer was pretty exciting, as I got to attend the Quidditch World Cup. I know I'm not all that interested in Quidditch, but still, going to an event as famous as that one is pretty exciting. We all met at the Burrow and travelled to the field by Portkey. A Portkey is such a fascinating invention, I have to say.

Anyways, once we arrived, we set up a magical tent, which had things like a kitchen and a full bathroom and everything in it. Again, a pretty neat idea. Once the game actually started, it was very exciting. We had prime seats, as Mr. Weasley got tickets from his work, so we were up in one of the high boxes. I admit, that I didn't really understand everything, but I did certainly enjoy myself.

As we were heading back to pack up the tents, panic ensued. Someone shot the Dark Mark into the sky, and chaos broke out. There were people running everywhere, and it was kind of scary, I have to admit. A bunch of Ministry officials found us and thought that we were the ones who shot the Dark Mark into the sky. Actually, they sent stunning spells all around and heard something crash not far from where we all were, and one of the officials pulled out an unconscious elf holding a wand. They performed a spell reversal and determined that it was indeed the wand who produced the Mark. It also happened to be Harry's wand that he had apparently dropped earlier. Boys! The house elf was Mr. Crouch's elf, and I could see that she was terrified. We had seen here earlier up in the top box, and the poor thing is terrified of heights! How terrible can Mr. Crouch be to force her to do something she obviously hates? And now! He was so furious with her, even though she continually denied that she had anything to do with it. He then proceeded to fire her! The poor elf! She was inconsolable; I felt so bad for her. Poor Winkie. These house elves get no justice!

And then back to school we headed. We figured that Dumbledore must be making an announcement about the Dark Mark or something because he looked uncharacteristically solemn and serious at the head table. But it was quite unusual. Ludo Bagman, one of the Ministry men was there! But instead, Dumbledore stood up and announced that they were bringing back the Triwizard Tournament. You know, the one they decided to ban because too many students died while participating. Apparently, they made it "safer" because only people older than...seventeen I think could enter. Right. Apparently, if you die when you are older than 17, it doesn't matter. Anyways, it was happening, and we were having Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, the other two major wizarding schools in Europe, coming to visit. It was an exciting time, yet also somewhat scary!

I am just glad that none of the people I know will enter. Fred and George can't, they're too young, along with Harry and Ron of course, and there is no way Percy would. Everyone will be safe, whic is something I am immensely grateful for!

The Year

Wow. This year has flown past. I can't believe I haven't had time to do a single blog post ALL year?!

There has been so much that has happened!!

So, this year we got to choose additional subjects, so I, of course, couldn't decide because there were so many interesting sounding ones. I went to Professor McGonagall for advice, as I figured she must have helped a number of students out with this. She was a great help and told me that actually if I wanted, I could take all of the classes I wanted...even if they overlapped in time. I didn't understand until she told me about time turners, and that I could go back in time to go to additional classes! That was honestly the coolest thing, so I took her up on that. Anyways, so we (Harry, Ron and I) all decided to take Care of Magical Creatures, which happened to be taught by Hagrid. We knew that we were in for a rough term when he decided to bring out dangerous animals...And unfortunately, Malfoy was in that class, and we all know that nothing with Malfoy seems to go well. He decided to antagonize this creature (a Hippogriff named Buckbeak) and ended up getting hurt, and then, of course, the whole speech about how his father would hear about it, blah blah blah.

So off goes Malfoy, talks to his father, and then Buckbeak is set for execution! Execution!! Because stupid Malfoy can't follow instructions! And without a trial too! So. The three of us determined that we would find a way to save Buckbeak, as Hagrid would be horrified if anything were to happen to him. I did a TON of research, as Ron and I had had a row, so we weren't speaking to each other. I found out a bunch of stuff, but somehow Hagrid just isn't so great at defending himself, so alas he was condemned. Hagrid asked for an appeal, and they brought the executioner to the appeal!!

Oh! Also, Ron was so excited because for once he was getting about as much attention as Harry. You see, Sirius Black had somehow broken into the castle, and apparently, Ron woke up and Sirius was holding a knife, looking down on him. This story, of course, spread like wildfire, and Ron was suddenly the superstar of the school. Quite annoying if you ask me

Anyways, back to the main point, as we were leaving Hagrid's house, we saw some figures disappearing into the wood. A big black dog to be exact, and of course, with Harry and Ron taking Divination, they think its that stupid grim, so of course we had to go and follow it.

We did, and the dog crawled under the Whomping Willow, pushed a button or something, and hen disappeared! The tree froze when the dog pushed the button. We headed over near there and then all of a sudden, that dog was back and he was dragging Ron into the tree!! Ron tried to hang on and everything, but his leg got caught on a tree branch, and just went "snap" and ugh it was terrible.

Honestly, the rest of what happened is such a blur now for me. Harry and I raced after Ron, and then we were in the Shrieking Shack, and then Professor Lupin was there, and then they got Ron's rat to turn into a person? And apparently, this person, Peter, had been living with Ron for ages and that's a little creepy I think. And then all of a sudden Professor Snape was there, and then I know that Harry and I both tried to stun him? Or something like that. As we were hurrying out of there, with Sirius and Lupin and Peter was tied up, and Professor Snape was...uh, I actually don't know where he was, then Peter escaped, and he went running away, and then all of a sudden there were Dementors everywhere, and I thought we were all going to die, and then suddenly this pretty Patronus in the shape of a stag came galloping out of nowhere and saved us all.

The only problem with that, of course, was that Sirius, who we now knew to be a good guy, was caught... And Harry had just found out that Sirius was his Godfather, so needless to say, he was a lot distraught.

As we all lay in the hospital wing, Dumbledore entered, and said something like "wouldn't it be great if we could turn time back again?" And that's when I remembered!! I had the Time-Turner!! This could fix everything!! So, Dumbledore told me that three turns should do it, and off Harry and I went. It was kind of confusing to explain the concept to Harry, but anyways, we managed, and we rescued Buckbeak, and as we were then leaving the cottage, Harry realized that it was his future self who had created the Patronus!

So, everything was alright in the end, Sirius escaped on Buckbeak, Harry cast his first full Patronus, it was a whirlwind of a day/night, but apparently, that seems to be the norm here at Hogwarts!!
